Good morning Everybody!
I just got home from another amazing time in Guatemala. This past week we finished up a project with a team from LifeQuest Church of Belton, Missouri, working with the Iglesia Damasco (Damascus Church) of Rinconcito.
On the last night together, our LifeQuest team and most of our team from Iglesia Damasco, who made many home visits with us, gathered to take one last picture together. Pastor Edy is at the top. On the far left in the cowboy hat is Cesar Gonzalez. The LifeQuest team you will see mixed into the big group from left to right is William Dodson, Jimmy Mitchell, Tim Goulet, and Marie Edmonds.
The main task of our team was to visit church members’ friends who had not yet come to know Jesus. Most of these people had been prayed for by these same church members for a little over a year.
In most of the visits, one of our team members would share their testimony, and then one of the Spanish speaking evangelists from the church would share the gospel and invite the person to pray to receive Christ.
Here, Jimmy and his team walk to their friends’ homes to share the gospel.
Javier, Jimmy’s translator, helps a lady pray to receive Christ.
Words Can’t Express…
For those of us who went, we’re having trouble describing what we just experienced. We could say that we saw over 200 people pray to receive Christ, that several of those conversions were truly amazing, that we fell in love with the people from the church we worked with, that we even had a Catholic priest of the region invite us to spend a morning together working with special needs children, and that this same priest was positive and responsive when we shared the gospel with those kids and adults. But just telling you that doesn’t even start to convey the whole story.
Bottom line here, as a result of this trip, we hope to expand it next year to include multiple churches and ministries in that same region of Guatemala. Stay tuned as we prepare for another harvest. As Jesus said, “The harvest is truly plentiful, the workers are few.”
Pray to the Lord of the Harvest…
Now that we have seen many come to Christ, the work increases for Iglesia Damasco. Pray for them. They have a lot of follow up to do, and since most of those who were saved are friends and neighbors, the next phase of interactions will be very personal.
Please pray that God will use them to disciple the new believers and get them taking their first steps of engagement in small groups and in the church. Pray for them to be strong and ready to battle the evil one who is certain to oppose them after such a big spiritual high.
And pray for us, that we can have teams ready to go help our friends in their harvest fields of responsive people, that many more will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support!
Love y'all!
Steve

Some Pics from the Week!
Here’s our team from left to right: me, Cesar, William, Marie, Jimmy, and Tim.
On that first Sunday, Tim shared a message from 2 Corinthians 5:20 on how we are ambassadors for Christ.
One day we started our visits in homes and businesses near the town square of Rinconcito. In Spanish, Rinconcito means “little corner.” So we were in a little corner of Guatemala!
One day we spent a morning in a school. Here, Cesar is having us re-enact the story of the good Samaritan. For some reason, Cesar wanted the good Samaritan to be a cowboy with a stick horse to ride! Unfortunately Jimmy and William both got bad reputations for beating up a poor Guatemalan school boy in the skit!
William hands out some candy to the kids.
Marie shared a moment with one of her teammates when we played soccer at the school. Even though this girl has a Chiefs shirt on, she had no idea who Travis or Taylor were! She had gotten the shirt in a secondhand clothes store that features used clothing that comes from the United States.
Jimmy took this pic that features some of the fun we had with the special needs children. The man in the top right with his hand on his chin is Father Marcos, the Catholic priest. We weren’t sure about how he would respond, but he loved everything we did and invited us to come back! At the end of our time together, he prayed a prayer of blessing over both the kids and us that touched all of us. Because of the high number of Catholics in the area, we pray that this friendship with the priest will help us have higher levels of responsiveness from Catholics who find out that we are friends with their local priest.
Cesar finishes up the presentation of the colored soccer ball message and is about to ask Tim to lead us in a prayer.
After several days of visiting, our evangelism team shared some grilled hamburgers and a bonfire together. At one point, someone started singing. And for a couple of hours, we sang worship songs in both English and Spanish, and several rounds of testimonies were shared spontaneously about how we had seen some amazing conversions take place. None of us will ever forget that night together and the stories we shared.
One of the most notable people who came to Christ was Ruben, Edy’s 82 year old father. For years, he had resisted, but this week he gave his life to Jesus. Here, Edy introduces his father on that last night when we had our final celebration.
